International Cities Best Practices Forum

Concept
It is an indisputable fact that urban societies are confronted with common problems at the operational, logistical and developmental level. Even though some cities have succeeded in developing innovative policies to address these types of problems, they usually do not manage to impart their knowledge and experience to other cities facing the same problems.
In recent years, international cooperation and the networks which have been developed for the exchange and the dissemination of knowledge and practice between cities were either singular in focus (environmental issues, climate change, transport issues) or they were limited in geographical scope (Baltic cities, etc.).
Purpose of the Forum
The objective of organising the “International Cities Best Practices Forum” in Athens is to bring in contact cities from every corner of the planet that are prepared to present the best practices which they themselves apply in administration, development and services.
The goal is not merely the discussion and examination of problem-creating factors in those cities, but also the substantive exchange of know-how and applied strategies which as a consequence will transform into practicable policies offering substantive solutions to similar major problems existing in other cities.
Proposed date and duration
The Forum will take place over three days in Athens in April 2010.
