The program entails for cities across the globe that bear the name "Athens" to unite and be members of an international community that stands for the name "Athens" and what it symbolizes for modern societies around the world.

Under the program, representatives from the Athens World were hosted a three-day stay in the city and were given the opportunity to experience the many different entities participating in the exciting cultural and social events with the purpose of introducing the city that imparted the name to them.

Among others, representatives from the Athens World were guided through the new Acropolis Museum, visited the ancient site of Sounion and attended the opening ceremony of the Christmas event of the City of Athens and the lighting of the Christmas tree at Sintagma Square.

At noon Saturday, December 12, 2009, the Mayor of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis welcomed the mayors of Athens World at City Hall where he signed a declaration of cooperation within the Network of Athens World.

This successful first meeting is an excellent start for a series of official meetings in Athens around the world. These meetings were offered to familiarize everyone with Athens (Greece), to form cooperation, exchange ideas, develop and ultimately establish a better quality of life for all.

The next stop proposed is Athens, Georgia of the United States of America as the world's second most notorious Athens.
